Door County Guide

Washington Island Wisconsin

Washington Island offers visitors day-trippers and vacationers alike relaxation, sightseeing, dining, and exploration. When even the most laid back Door County locals need to relax it often means a trip to the island.

Find great places to eat, nice places to stay, some interesting shopping, and plenty of great sights.

Known to locals as simply, “the island” it lies just northeast of the Door Peninsula. Located just beyond straits of Deaths Door. The island was once a guidepost to early sailors transiting from Lake Michigan into the Bay of Green Bay.

Once on the island take in its leisurely pace and pastoral beauty while bicycling. Others prefer to take their cars, rent mopeds or take a guided tour.

Where to Stay on the Island

Washington Island offers visitors several lodging options. Choose from hotels, cabins, rental homes, and bed and breakfasts. No matter what your choice everyone agrees that a night spent on an island is the most relaxing sleep you will find.

A nice Hotel is…

Findlay's Holiday Inn

Holiday Too has a historic feel, and for good reason. It dates back to the early 1900's. It also has 8 rooms. The building has a rustic north woods fee as the structure makes generous use of old barn wood. Both of the buildings have a common area.

There is also an on premise restaurant featuring locally caught fresh fish and many interesting specialties.

Looking for nice cottages? We recommend …

Flath's Cottages R. R. 1 Box 219
WI 54246
