Sturgeon Bay Resorts

In and around the city you will find plenty of fine resorts and resort hotels. See which ones are the best of the best.
Our picks for Sturgeon Bay Resorts are:

Stone Harbor Waterfront Resort

Stone Harbor

It's our number one pick for an “in the city” resort. Stone Harbor sits right on Sturgeon Bay and offers spectacular views. Choose from elegant hotel rooms or private suites. Suites include kitchens. Rooms and suites are available with whirlpool baths and fireplaces.

Guests enjoy indoor/outdoor pools, whirlpools, saunas, game rooms, and a fitness center. After all that activity take in a meal at the resort’ s First Avenue Pier Restaurant and pub. After dinner don’t miss a sunset walk along the bay. After all that exercise it’s time for a malt at Perry’s Cherry Dinner.

Both hotels offer amazing winter and business rates. We have friends who stayed at both places for under $45.00 a night. For a nice place in Door County that’s an absolute steal! We strongly recommend reservations during the summer and weekends.

Shop in Sturgeon Bay

The historic downtown shopping district is located just a few blocks east of the Michigan Street Bridge and continues on to the Jefferson Street Shops. There are specialty and gift shops for every taste.

Among the shops are plenty of coffee-houses, restaurants, sweet shops and dinners. So make a day of it in Sturgeon Bay. Here are a few of our favorite Sturgeon Bay Shops

The Dancing Bear  - on N. 3rd Avenue is a great place for kids and adults. We love the hard to find high quality toys, gifts, pottery, and books. And it’s right around the corner from the classic Perry’s Cherry Dinner!

Barn Door Quilts - on N. 3rd Avenue. We watched this gem grow from a small quilt shop, ran out of an old Jefferson Street barn, to a full service shop. Barn Door offers everything from fabric to quilting classes. If you are a quilter or know someone that is be sure to stop in at Barn Door Quilts

Candleworks of Door County - is located just north of Sturgeon Bay at 5789 Highway 42. Both locals and long time visitors were happy to see Door County’s original candle maker, Mike Felhofer, get back into the game after Lang’s buyout of Door County Candle. As always Mike does it right. He offers handcrafted candles made from highest quality ingredients available.

Dining in Sturgeon Bay

Fine Dining

When it comes to fine dining Sturgeon Bay has several places to choose from. We can’t bring ourselves to recommend just one. In this category we have a tie!

The Inn at Cedar Crossing and the Sage Restaurant are both located in the downtown district. Each has it’s own unique atmosphere and offers a wonder menu. If you are in Sturgeon Bay for an extended day try both!

The Inn at Cedar Crossing
336 Louisiana Street
Sturgeon Bay, WI 54235
920-743-4249

Located on N. 3rd Avenue this Historic Inn offers breakfast, lunch, Sunday brunch and nightly dinners. The menu includes traditional American foods, Italian, and contemporary dishes. Bakery, pastries, and desserts are made from scratch.

The Inn’s dining room is casually elegant and radiates the rich warmth that only a historic building can. Expect to find fresh fish, tender fillets, and interesting culinary treats daily.

The Sage Restaurant & Wine Bar
136 N. 3rd Ave
Sturgeon Bay WI
920-746-1100

The Sage has contemporary and sophisticated feel. It is self-billed as “modern and elegant with an Asian –influenced style.” Expect to find steaks, fresh fish, and many other favorites prepared with hints of classic French overtones.

The extensive wine list can only be described as impressive and offers something for every palate. On weekends you may enjoy live jazz and contemporary music. The atmosphere and menu confirm Sage is geared toward an adult clientele. After visiting similar places from San Diego to Santa Barbara we think Sage easily pulls off the contemporary -sophisticated experience better for less.

Casual Dining

Relax with a good meal in one of many great casual eateries. Here are a few places in town or close to town we recommend.

The Neighborhood Pub
1407 Egg Harbor Road

Right across the street from the Best Western Egg Harbor Road is also known as Business 42/57 with exits off the main highway.

The Neighborhood Pub is a local institution. The pub offers a wide selection of good food at reasonable prices. There is something for every taste, expect to find everything from burgers to prime rib. The setting is casual and relaxing. Weekends in summer can get pretty crowded but don’t let that scare you off.

Birmingham’s
4709 N. Bay Shore Rd
Sturgeon Bay

A long time local favorite just minutes north of the city. This no frills, but classic casual bar and eatery delivers the best burgers we ever sank our teeth into. The good food doesn’t stop with burgers. The menu offers up pizza, sandwiches, and daily specials from seafood to steak. If you plans only allow you to stop in once go with the burger. Come hungry!

There are many things to do in and around Sturgeon Bay. We recommend trying to spend a day in the city. Start out with our suggestions and explore from there.
