Where to Stay

Here are a few of the best places ...

Pheasant Park Resort
P.O. Box 230, 130 Park Lane
Sister Bay, WI 54234
920-854-7287 | 800-392-3921

Our favorite has to be Pheasant Park Resort. Everyone we send to Pheasant Park loves it. Some were so impressed with the grounds and area that they opted to buy on-site condominiums, not a bad endorsement!

Pheasant Park features large 1, 2, and 3 bedroom suites with fully equipped kitchens, many have double whirlpool baths and fireplaces. The generously sized suites are kept in immaculate condition. The main building has a huge great room with a fireplace, relaxing chairs, television, books, and board games.

Indoor/outdoor pools, a sauna, and a whirlpool melt away stress summer or winter. There are plenty of outdoor activities and great eateries nearby. During our winter stays we grew to appreciate the resorts amazingly long hallways, complete with sitting areas. The most energy packed toddler is ready for bed after just a couple strolls down the halls.

If you are not sure where to stay in Door County you won’t go wrong at Pheasant Park!

Another favorite is the ...

Churchill Inn
425 Gateway Drive
Sister Bay, Wisconsin 54234
(800) 422-4906

We like to think of the Church Hill Inn as our bit of jolly old England right here in Door County. This outstanding Inn is modeled after the great English Country Inns. The 34 guestrooms are nicely appointed with antiques to round out the English house feel.

Each room has a private bath. Many of the rooms/suites feature oversized whirlpool baths, a fireplace, and four poster beds. Each nights stay includes a breakfast of fresh bakery, hot entrees, fruit, cereal, and more.

Make sure to check out the unique English Pub style “honor bar.” Sample beer, wines, and light snacks. Many imported from England. Sliding into the Pub made me feel like I was back in a favorite British Pub in Hong Kong.

For a unique stay in Door County with an English twist be sure to try the Church Hill.

For the family or big groups try ...

Scandinavian Lodge
PO Box 355, 264 Hwy 57
Sister Bay Wisconsin
(920)-854-7123
(888)-64LODGE

Ok, while we have never stayed at the Scandinavian we know plenty of folks who did, and come back repeatedly. In fact, every one of them had so many great things to say about this Sister Bay resort we felt compelled to feature the Scandinavian.

Scandinavian bills itself as a place for all comers, from couples on getaways to large family gatherings. And they just don’t “talk the talk,” We are convinced that this is the perfect place for a group of vacationing families to stay. There are accommodations and a mix of activities just right for everyone.

Stay in 1, 2, and 3 bedroom suites or the romantic studio. Indoor/outdoor heated pools, whirlpool, a sauna, game rooms, outdoor activities, and an outdoor grilling area complete the package.

We understand that families with small children really appreciate the safety and privacy of a shallow indoor children’s pool well as the kids play ground.

Sister Bay Shopping

Our favorite and a must see is the ...

Tannenbaum Holiday Shop
11054 Hwy 42
Sister Bay, Wisconsin 54234
(920)-854-5004

Our favorite Sister Bay shopping haunt. If you can make it to only one area shop make it the Tannenbaum where it feels like Christmas all year long.

But it’s not just about Christmas. We think Tannenbaum offers some of the best unique home and gift products in the entire county. You can also find a lot of great collectibles here. Stop in throughout the year and find great gifts for every season and holiday.

Local Dining

A few places you do not want to miss ...

Al Johnson’s Swedish Restaurant
702 N. Bayshore Dr.
Sister Bay, Wisconsin 54234
(920) 854-2626

Okay, it’s a little touristy. However, from the goats on the roof to those great Swedish breakfasts Al Johnson’s is hard to beat when it comes to good food and good fun. Everyone owes it to themselves to try this Door County institution at least one time.

Sister Bay Bowl
504 N. Bay Shore Dr. Hwy 42
920-854-2841

Yes, you heard it right, A bowling alley! Sister Bay Bowl is another Door County dining institution. This eatery is happiest doing nothing more than delivering really good food and nice prices. Like every legendary dining spot they do everything right each time.

The large dining room is often filled to capacity so expect a wait during the summer seasons, but it’s worth it. Like the famous fish boil and legendary Al Johnson’s the Sister Bay bowl is a Door County culinary rite of passage.

Mission Grille
Where Hwys 42 and 57 meet.
920-854-9070

For fine dining it’s the Mission Grille. The Grille, located in a one time Catholic Church and mission serves up some of the finest and inspiring dining in Door County. We are not alone in our assessment of the Mission Grille; Gourmet Magazine lists this unique grille in the top 12 restaurants in Wisconsin.

Dinner entrees feature certified Black Angus steaks and prime rib, stuffed pork chops, fish flown in fresh daily. Expect to eat locally grown fruits and vegetables when in season.

Dinners run from around $15.00 to $30.00. For this caliber of food we think the Mission Grille is more than reasonable. We have spent twice as much for half the taste in Chicago and Los Angeles.

A little Sister Bay History

Norwegian immigrants, mostly in the logging trade, first settled Sister Bay around 1857. The village name can be traced back to Increase Clafin, Door County’s first settler. He named the two islands near the sisters. Soon the bay itself, and later the community became known as Sister Bay.

Today the village is a thriving community of nearly 1000 residents, large by Door County standards. Each summer the beauty and tranquility draw thousands of part time residents to the Sister Bay area. Come see what they find so special.

Sister Bay Recreation

With Peninsula State Park less than 15 minutes away your outdoor recreation choices are nearly unlimited. Fish, hike, golf, camp, bike, cross country ski, snowmobile, or just have a nice picnic.

Sister Bay has so many great places to stay, eat, and visit that choosing where to go and what to do can create a pleasant dilemma. We hope our suggestions help.
