The Viking Grill is a Door County institution. Long ago locals would make the drive north to take in a meal at the Viking. Today the Viking Grill is a very popular place to eat with locals and visitors alike.

The Viking Grill and Lounge is open all year and features daily specials for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Expect to find, lightly breaded Lake Perch, BBQ chicken and ribs, homemade soups and the ever popular cheeseburger.

The Viking may best be known for their incredible fish boils. The Viking Grill has been serving up great fish boils since 1961, and they do it right! It’s hard to pick between the Viking and the White Gull in for Door County’s top fish boil. Their fish boil is served starting at 4:30 daily mid May through October.

The Clearing

The Clearing can best be described as a “folk school.” This unique adult learning environment is perched atop a spectacular bluff overlooking the waters of Green Bay Wisconsin.

The Clearing is where adults interested in nature, arts or humanities can learn. This is no mere “how to” collection of workshops. Students participate in stimulating discussion, conversation, nature study and hands-on work. There is no place else on earth quite like the clearing for learning.

Wide ranges of classes are offered. Choose from painting, writing, quilting, birding, wood carving, poetry, rustic furniture making, photography, poetry, fine wood-working, music, weaving, philosophy, stained glass, metal work, nature study and paper arts.

If you don’t have time for a class be sure to visit the grounds to explore the interesting architecture blended into the environment. Also check out the book and gift store.

Newport State Park covers about 2,400 acres of wilderness and is open year round. At the park you will find an amazing 11 miles of undeveloped Lake Michigan shoreline.

Active visitors will find 30 miles of hiking trails, 12 miles of off road biking trails, 16 backpack only camp sites.

For winter adventure you will find winter backpack only camping, 23 miles of Winter trails, 12.5 miles of groomed X-Country Ski trails, 2 miles of groomed skate ski trails, and 8 miles of snowshoe trails.
Families will enjoy a picnic area with grills and shelter building with fire a place.

The trip to Ellison Bay just to see the beauty of the area is well worth the effort. Just don’t drive through, explore a bit and make some great discoveries of your own.
