Each Door County winery re-defines Americas Wine Country. Half a continent from the Napa Valley the wineries of the Door Peninsula produce some of Americas favorite specialty wines and are garnishing plenty of awards along the way. In fact the Door County winery trade created an entire branch of tourist industry here in the Door Peninsula.
Door County wineries are famous for their specialty fruit wines, many made from the bounty of our local orchards. Of course cherry wine is always a favorite, however, don’t neglect apple, pear, mango, blackberry, strawberry, and raspberry to name a few.
But Door County wines are not just about fruit wines. Humble table wines to specialty varieties for the more sophisticated palette are all here. You can find some truly great Rieslings, Merlots, Cabernet, and Chardonnay.

Door Peninsula winery is well known for their award winning fruit wines. However the winery owns and operates a nearby six-acre vineyard growing hybrid grapevines able to tolerate the frigid Wisconsin winters. Visit the winery each fall, at harvest, to see the grapes pressed and fermenting in the wine cellar.
The first striking feature of the Door Peninsula Winery is that it is located in the Old Carlsville Wisconsin Schoolhouse. The school building was built in 1868 and still retains the charm of the old country school.
Door Peninsula Winery has a wonderful wine bar where you can sample all the wines sold. We really can’t say enough about the white Riesling. Spend the time to take a tour of the winery. Check out the wine shop near the front of the building for a large selection of wine accessories.
When it’s time to eat just stay on the premise. The winery is also home to The Vineyard Restaurant & Wine Bar. Sample delicious appetizers then move on to gourmet entrees. Enjoy fresh seafood, succulent steaks, and specials such as fried lobster or five course meals. This is truly one special Door County winery.

Orchard Country Winery was founded in 1985 and is a small family owned winery founded in 1985. Like each Door County winery Orchard Country is housed in a unique setting, in this case an early 1900's dairy barn.
There is an orchard of over 100 acres growing fruit and grapevines. This winery produces over 30 varieties of full bodied and flavorful wines, many have won awards.
Simon Creek Vineyard & Winery 5896 Bochek Road Sturgeon Bay 920-746-9307
Simon Creek is the most modern Door County winery; it opened for business in June of 2003. The vineyard covers 30 acres making it the largest dedicated vineyard in the county. The production facility is nothing less than state of the art. And the most technologically advanced winery in the mid west United States. Able to produce over 15,000 cases of wines each year it is one of the largest wineries in Wisconsin.
Some of the Simon Creek wines already clinched several awards, impressive for a winery so young. Among the great classic wines bottled at Simon Creek are American Chardonnay, American Gewürztraminer, American Golden Muscat, American Merlot, and many more. As the vineyard matures look for new additions.
Stay for a free tour that highlights the winemaking process from harvest through bottling and casing. The tour is nice and ends up in where else but in the tasting room. The view from the taste room is a pleasant vista showcasing the vineyard. Stones Throw Winery is probably the most unique among Door County Wineries and produces some truly inspiring wine. Located near Baileys Harbor this winery produces classic wines one barrel at a time using both Door County and premium California grapes. The small but high quality operation holds true to traditional winemaking, using high quality grapes fermented in small tanks and aged in oak casks. Stones Throw reminds one of the classic bodegas in Spain’s Cadiz region.
In the cellar expect to find Pinot Noir, Merlot, Zinfandel, Riesling, and others. For the most up to date vintage information be sure and call.
